Fights For Us

The Lord again he proves that he can be trusted as he fights for his people. As we face the greater enemies of sin, Satan and death, this passage demonstrates the absolute confidence we can have in the Lord who fights for us.

Living by Faith

It’s easy to make foolish decisions when we rely on our own judgment rather than prayerfully reflecting on God word. This is the issue in Joshua 9, with the story of the Gibeonite deception. A mysterious figure confronts Joshua with a drawn sword – this is the commander of the army of the Lord! He comes to remind Joshua (and us) who really is in charge. This sermon considers his identity, our allegiance to him and the assurance he gives.

Celebrating the Sacraments

This passage describes a turning point in the life of God’s people. The wilderness wandering caused by unbelief and disobedience is finally over. God has raised up a new generation and reconstituted his covenant with them, and they embrace the signs of their covenant relationship. In this way we learn a lot about a covenant relationship with God and the role of covenant signs in that relationship.
