When it comes to the meaning of life, many look for that meaning in pleasure; e.g. “Life is short, so enjoy it while you can.” But can pleasure make our lives meaningful? In this passage Solomon puts it to the test. He examines the promise of pleasure, uncovers the problem of pleasure, and that leads us to the source of real satisfaction.

The Meaning of Life

What is the meaning of life? What am I here for? It’s a question as old as life itself. But many people today try to answer it by leaving God out (e.g. “You don’t need God to live a satisfying and fulfilled life.”) But the Teacher of Ecclesiastes put that to the test. And what did he find? Without God ultimately “Everything is meaningless!… Utterly meaningless!”
